Floors for Lake Living
Cicero calls itself "A Friendly Lakeside Community," and the lake shapes most of the epoxy flooring work we do there. The town was founded in 1834 and named after Cicero Creek. In 1956 the Indianapolis Water Company dammed that creek to create Morse Reservoir, and Cicero sits at the lake's north end. Of the town's 2.04 square miles, 0.41 is water.
The lake garage
Morse Reservoir covers about 1,500 acres with roughly 32.5 miles of shoreline, and a good share of homes along it have garages that do more than park a car. Here is what we see most:
- Boats and trailers that come in wet and drip on the slab
- Fuel and oil from outboards, mowers and lake toys
- Wet feet and wet gear coming straight off the dock
- Sand and grit that grind into bare concrete
For these garages we recommend a flake broadcast with extra texture for grip, and a chemical-resistant topcoat. Bare concrete soaks up fuel and leaves a stain. A sealed surface lets you wipe it up. We can also coat the step into the house, which gets the most wet foot traffic.
Moisture near the water
Homes close to a lake can have damp basements and garages that stay humid. Every below-grade slab we coat gets a moisture test first. If the readings are high, we use a moisture-tolerant primer. If water is coming in through cracks or the walls, a drainage fix needs to happen before any floor coating, and we will tell you that at the estimate.
Older homes and in-town lots
Cicero is a long-established town. Its first post office opened in 1839, and the 2020 census found a median age of 42.4. Many homes in the town proper have older slabs with paint, patches or cracks. We grind off coatings and loose material, fill what can be filled and point out any section that needs concrete repair first.
Picking the right time
Lake owners often want the garage done before boating season or right after the boat comes out in fall. Moderate spring and fall temperatures suit most coatings well. Tell us when the boat goes in and comes out, and we will plan the install around it.
Seasonal homes and rentals
Not every lake house is lived in year-round. If yours sits empty part of the year, a sealed garage and basement floor is easier to clean when you open the house and less likely to hold musty odors. We can schedule the job for a time you are in town for the estimate and coordinate access for the install.
What the estimate covers
We measure the garage and any other floors you want coated, test for moisture, check for paint or sealers and mark cracks and damaged edges. Then we write a quote that names the system, each coat, the prep and the total.
Winter at the lake
When the boat is out and the roads are salted, the lake garage turns back into a regular garage. Brine from the car melts onto the floor every night. A flake floor hides that film, and a squeegee after storms keeps it from pooling. Rinse the floor during salt season and once more in spring before the boat goes back in.

Cicero Questions
We store our boat in the garage. Will fuel drips damage an epoxy floor?
A chemical-resistant topcoat handles occasional fuel and oil drips well if you wipe them up. Bare concrete absorbs them and stains. We will recommend a topcoat suited to how you use the space.
Our Cicero basement feels damp in summer. Can it still be coated?
We test the slab first. Vapor-related dampness can usually be handled with a moisture-tolerant primer. If water is leaking in, that needs to be fixed before the floor is coated.
Can you coat the floor of a detached boathouse or storage building?
If it has a concrete slab, yes. We check moisture and temperature in the building and pick a system suited to it. We do not coat wood or gravel floors.
